These can be VERY problematic, unless your card/capture software combination writes good files. My impression of your situation is that you need to be careful: you speak of using MPEG files from a capture card. It's reportedly much better than MyDVD, however.

I have no experience with Movie Studio's DVD burning counterpart, but users here say that it's basically a repackaged DVD Architect 1, which didn't have powerful enough features to attract my attention. (I just create an appropriate-length Smart Sound file in Studio, save as an audio-only avi and bring it into Vegas, where everything else is done.) I still use Studio occasionally, because of its Smart Sound capability. Then came Vegas 5, with a vastly-improved DVD Architect 2. I'd edit in Screenblast and burn with Studio 9. It sounded so lame, that I never even installed it. The big derog was the burning software, Sonic's MyDVD, which was just about universally slammed here on the forum. But I very quickly recognized Screenblast's power and the ability to have more than 1 video track. (Vegas Movie Studio in a previous version.) It took a little while to adjust to using a timeline exclusively, as I'd often used Studio's storyboard.

PC Magazine gave it a mixed review, especially the DVD Architect. Since I'm primarily interested in a user-friendly and powerful editor, I was leaning towards TMPGEnc's MPEG Editor, VideoRedo, etc., when Vegas Movie Studio+DVD caught my eye.

Roxio's editor and DVD creator seems more stable, but doesn't seem to have many features. Pinnacle Studio 8 and 9 (when it isn't crashing) produces inconsistent results. Many of the MPEGs are files that I have captured with a Hauppauge PVR-250 capture card. I want to take existing MPEG, WMV, and AVI files, edit them, and (occasionally) burn them to DVD. I am considering purchasing Vegas Movie Studio+DVD. I see no way out of this delema as Soundsoap support has been very quiet on this issue.Please forgive me if I'm posting this to the wrong forum.

I'm thinking that since there is no compatable codec this is causing the save problem. (It learns the noise and removes just that), however, when attempts to save the cleaned AVI are made it will not save. Soap cleans the AVI better that anything I've ever seen. The Soundsoap ad proudly displays it will work with AVI files, but when you try to clean anything of value the quicktime window pops up and says not supported format and there is a blank quicktime screen. I guess this is almost an unresovable problem in that soundsoap was written for the mac and later released for XP only. (I only wish I had bought a mac instead of a windows thing.oh well we live with our errors) Nerdyness doesn't go away with age, but what the heck most of us are quite well to do and some of the others.well maybe not so well to do. Thanks, I only wish I were a nerdy boy, It's been too many years and I'm a retired nerdy grandpa. The standard codecs in quicktime are too lossy to use. One real problem I have is Soundsoap and the standalone only works with AVI / quicktime and I was hoping to find a lossless codec that is compatable with my editors, quicktime and the soundsoap. I guess I'm just fat fingering the save options. The YUY2 doesn't seem to work well in Adobe as I get a greatly reduced output file. ( have to add audio and vidio filters to even rescue these old videotapes.) I notice the file size changes and assume I'm loosing data when they shrink. I just don't want to throw away quality because multiple recompressions are necessary.

I did notice file size changes, for example the YUY2 had 200meg, Huffy was 100 meg, and the Microsoft window was 50 meg for the same 10 second clip. Even the computer nerds (I wear my nerd badge proudly) don't fully understand all the ins and outs. You are right about not understanding, as I'm retired and new to this game.
